Samba, Adventures and Community in Riga
A simple travel story from Eesti Sambakool's samba weekend in Riga, with workshops, music, friends and community.
We left rainy Tallinn behind and arrived in Riga to proper summer weather and sunshine. After the long drive, we walked through the city, visited the market and ended the evening together by watching the documentary Heart of Samba. It was a calm and inspiring start to the weekend ahead.
A Small Rescue Mission
The next day started with good coffee, but soon we discovered that our instruments had stayed in a Bolt car. The ride had already ended and the driver had continued to the other side of Riga. We waited for nearly an hour until the car became available again.
Luckily, everything ended well. After a small rescue operation, the instruments were back with us and the workshop could begin.
Workshop at Kaņepes Kultūras Centrs
The workshop took place at Kaņepes Kultūras centrs and was organized together with TēToka Kultura. Their teacher is also from Brazil, which gave the day an authentic energy and a warm connection between cultures.
Rodrigo's 10-Year Concert
The main event of the evening, and the reason we gathered in Riga, was the concert dedicated to Rodrigo's 10-year anniversary. It took place at the legendary Folkklubs Ala Pagrabs. You can also find them on Instagram.
We had a chance to see how professional musicians work and perform, and we also joined in with smaller interludes. Moments like this are motivating. They remind us why regular practice matters.
A Simple Ending With Friends
On the final day, we spent time with Latvian and Brazilian friends at a barbecue near Riga. Good food, music and people gave the trip a warm ending before the drive back to Tallinn.
Trips like this are a good reminder that Kuldõunapuu is not only training or music. It is community, culture and shared adventures.
